6785 days, that’s how long ago Metroid 4 (aka Metroid Fusion) was released. That was a long time ago, I was still learning to kickflip and didn’t even know how to use the internet properly. It was 2 years before I created my first blog, cerealswithlagsana.blogspot.com.

And then, out of nowhere, in the middle of a global pandemic, in 2021, Nintendo not only finally announces Metroid 5, the sequel to Metroid Fusion 19 years later, but also announces that this is actually the legendary Metroid Dread, a game which has been rumored by the Metroid fans community since 2005. Not only that but the game will be released this year! Boom!

Also, it seems that I have future sight:

The presentation was amazing because first, they have simply shown “Metroid 5”, just like it shows “Metroid 3” in Super Metroid and “Metroid 4” in Metroid Fusion, which was already mind-blowing. After a little gameplay, they revealed the actual game title: “Metroid Dread”. Whaaaat?!?

As this year there was no E3 in person, I watched Nintendo Direct with some friends via Google Meets, and recorded our reaction to the game’s reveal:

Then Yoshio Sakamoto talked a little about the game and how this game will conclude Samus’ story with the Metroids. I hope this doesn’t mean the end of the franchise, but we’ll see. Watch the video below:

This is basically the game I’ve been waiting for the most in my life, because I got into the world of Metroid on the SNES with Super Metroid, and a few years later we had Metroid Fusion and then Metroid: Zero Mission, so I had a feeling like “pretty soon, one of these E3, Metroid 5 will be revealed”. And well, it took 19 years but here we are!

It’s weird to think that this is the first time I’m writing about Metroid in this blog, and I’m actually a bigger fan of Metroid than Zelda, and I’ve had this blog for 13 years.

Thank you Nintendo
